Job Responsibilities:

Department: Shipbuilding Engineering

Reporting to: Engineering Manager

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identification, selection and design of electrical systems / equipment for projects Undertaking design verification and providing calculations as required for the project. Preparation of electrical drawings (SLD, block diagrams, termination diagrams, and layouts) as required for the project. Preparation of documentation for Class and Statutory bodies for design approvals and clearing comments Witnessing FAT, attending site surveys, dock and sea trails.
  • Participating in design reviews with client and consultants, taking necessary follow up actions accordingly Conceptual design development as and when required during project.
  • Undertaking design works in accordance with yard standards, procedures and work instructions.
  • Follow up with trades and carry out inspections during vessel construction Writing technical specifications for shipboard electrical & electronic equipment Carry out technical review of quotations provided by procurement / commercial / estimation departments and recommending technical suitability of equipment.
  • Perform duties of project engineer as needed Assign jobs to engineers & draftsman and manage to ensure timely work flow Estimate manpower requirements for completion of jobs as demanded by shipbuilding schedule.
  • Material estimate (BOM/MTO) for new build projects.
  • Illumination calculation using conventional methods & using software, choice of luminaries, lighting load and transformer capacity calculation, Design of instrumentation, controls & Alarm & monitoring system and preparing IO lists.
  • Design of cable tray / cable ladders, routing of cables, checking interferences with piping & HVAC ducting Cable selection and preparing cable schedule, tracking cable pulling for the project and monitoring the shortages in advance.
  • Experience in selection and configuration of diesel electric drives and related systems. Integration of Diesel Electric propulsion systems including VFDs, switch boards and VAS. Sound knowledge of harmonics and interferences as experienced in high voltage 690V systems.
  • Conversant and thorough knowledge in high voltage systems. Review of ships automation viz., DP-2 system, Alarm & monitoring, Remote Valve controls, tank gauging system & PMS.
  • Preparation of electrical load analysis (Power Balance) & determining the capacity of generator.
  • Calculation of short circuit current, voltage drop, sizing of cables & selection of circuit breakers. (both conventional and using software COMPETENCY

Expectation:

Should be a team leader with good oral and written communication skills in English.
Should be up to date with advances in electrical technology in the marine field and must be a quick learner to adopt new technologies.

  • Should be good at concept design and integration of different systems.
  • Past exposure to FATs, site surveys, dock & sea trials would be advantageous Should be skilled enough to assess manpower requirements and prepare job schedules to follow and support the shipbuilding programme.
  • Should be Familiar with 3D modelling software like Tribon, Foran, SC etc.
  • The incumbent will have to manage and lead the electrical team ensuring timely design, evaluation and delivery of documents liaising with Class, Designer, Yard and Suppliers.
  • He/she will have to actively participate in selecting and finalizing major equipment and systems like diesel electric propulsion, VFDs, switch boards, PMS etc. and will have overall responsibility for ensuring adherence to QHSE policies for designs delivered.
  • Qualification: Minimum bachelor degree /diploma in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience and Knowledge:Minimum 5 years of experience at a shipyard or Design Office guiding and leading team of electrical engineers.
  • Should have independently handled complex shipbuilding projects, preferably experienced with Electric drives, Switch Board design and VAS.
  • Conversant and thorough knowledge of high voltage systems. Sound knowledge of Harmonics interferences in high voltage 690V systems.
  • Previous experience in design of Diesel Electric propulsion is required.
